COMPANY NEWS
● Today, Pan African Resources announces. The Aim-listed company is producing 100,000 ounces of gold per year and will be hoping for glittering results.
● Tomorrow, Abcam and Ashmore both announce. Abcam is a biotechnology company based in Cambridge’s Science Park, which sells research antibodies.
● On Wednesday, Barratt Developments and Galliford Try announce. Barratt Developments is one of the UK’s largest residential property development companies.
● Gulf Keystone Petroleum and Next also announce on Wednesday. The former is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, while the latter is the well known high street brand in the less exotic business of selling clothes.
● On Thursday Dunelm, Green Dragon Gas, Indus Gas and Kingfisher all announce. The latter has nothing to do with the popular lager, but is the largest home improvement retailer in Europe. Its shops include B&Q.
ECONOMICS NEWS
● On Wednesday, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand will announce on interest rates, which currently stand at 2.5 per cent. The Swiss National Bank will reveal its decision on interest rates on Thursday.
As safe havens, both New Zealand and Switzerland are facing great demand for their currencies.
● The Office for National Statistics releases August’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Thursday. The CPI measure of inflation remains stubbornly high at 4.4 per cent, despite fears from some that deflation might be heading our way.
POLITICAL NEWS
● The Independent Commission on Banking publishes the final findings of its proposals on banking reform today. David Cameron is also scheduled to meet Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin and a chief for London’s Metropolitan Police is also expect to be appointed today.
● The Trades Union Congress (TUC) will debate on Wednesday withdrawing all co-operation with Israeli organisations – including Histadrut, the biggest Israeli trade union. So much for workers of the world uniting.
