Amazon topped the list of the 15 most sought-after companies over the last 12 months, while Google came in at second place.

Other tech firms including Facebook, Apple and IBM also scored highly in the study, which was compiled by employer review website Glassdoor.

Consulting remains another popular choice for job-seekers, with all of the Big Four consulting firms making it into the top 15.

Finance giants such as Barclays and JP Morgan also scored highly, ranking in fifth and sixth place respectively.

However, as the tech and finance industries increasingly hire from the same talent pool, the report shows City firms are falling behind in the battle to snap up the best staff.

“In addition, both industries dominate the highest paying companies in the UK for 2019. This indicates that, while not the sole motivation, salary and compensation is still an important factor during the job search process and can help get recruits in the door.”
