Suarez back on goal trail while Wales boost Euro 2016 hopes
MERCURIAL former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez scored his first goals since receiving a worldwide ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup as Uruguay recorded a 3-0 friendly victory over Oman yesterday.
The Barcelona striker is serving a nine-match international ban but is eligible to play in friendlies, and netted twice in the second period to take his international tally to 43.
Wales, meanwhile, remain on course to reach their first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup after beating Cyprus 2-1 in Cardiff last night to stay top of their qualification group, with substitute David Cotterill and Reading winger Hal Robson-Kanu on target for the hosts, who had Andy King sent off.
Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson bagged two first-half goals as Iceland dispatched Holland 2-0 in Group A while Manchester City frontman Edin Dzeko found the net as Bosnia and Herzegovina drew 1-1 with Belgium. Italy maintained their perfect start to Euro 2016 qualifying with a slender 1-0 victory in Malta as Southampton striker Graziano Pelle bagged his first Azzurri goal.
