Quarter of new EU citizens in UK
OF ALL new EU citizenships granted, the UK makes up nearly one quarter.
In terms of citizenships granted per 1,000 inhabitants, the UK ranked fourth of 28 with a figure of three, behind Sweden, Luxembourg and Ireland.
In 2012, 818,000 people were able to acquire citizenship in the EU with 193,900 of those in the UK – 23.7 per cent of the EU figure, according to figures released yesterday by EU data bank Eurostat.
