One in five new graduates faces unemployment
GRADUATES were hit with an unemployment rate of 20 per cent in the third quarter of 2010, official data showed yesterday.
This was the highest unemployment rate for new graduates in over a decade, and double the rate seen before the recession.
By the end of the recession graduate unemployment was twice the national rate, the ONS said.
And jobs growth in the retail sector slowed in the final quarter of the year, the British Retail Consortium said today.
“Against an economy-wide background of rising unemployment, retail jobs were up modestly by 0.6 per cent in the final quarter,” the BRC’s Stephen Robertson said.
