Milner next to miss out with illness
JAMES MILNER’S hopes of claiming an England start for the World Cup opener with the USA suffered a blow after he was forced to miss training yesterday through illness.
The Aston Villa midfielder was confined to the team hotel after complaining of a slight temperature after England’s 3-0 practice match victory over Platinum Stars on Monday.
In his absence, Capello conducted a light training session as he steps up his preparations for Saturday’s clash in Rustenburg.
Chelsea pair Ashley and Joe Cole, plus centre back Ledley King, spent the morning in the gym, all as a matter of course after Monday’s warm-up game, while Shaun Wright-Phillips had a light session after picking up a slight knock to his knee.
There was no sign, however, of goalkeeper David James, who missed Monday’s game with a knee injury and is yet to resume training, throwing his involvement on Saturday into doubt, although Gareth Barry, already out of the opening game, is back training with the rest of the squad.
