HOW TO GET DRESSED
FOUNDERS OF ROUS ILAND MEMBERS’ BOUTIQUE
Q.Fashion pages are full of jumpsuits, I’d really love to wear one but I don’t think I can pull it off especially as I’m 5”3 and size 12.
A.Just like dresses, there is a jumpsuit for every shape and personality. They’ve been around long enough to have proven they are more than a flash in fashion history. So now is the time to invest in yours.
The classic full length jumpsuit does require a bit of height so if you’re short in stature you will need a big pair of heels. Work it that way for a cocktail party.
For the more curvaceous avoid the relaxed jersey styles and go for a tailored, structured piece. It will not only flatter but look much smarter.
If you are tall but still worry that the all in one is too strong a statement, try a two tone jumpsuit. Like a two tone dress the jumpsuit will seem like separates at first glance and break up the look for a more subtle silhouette. Go for a linen trouser with silk top for pure elegance.
For the petite, try a culotte short shape jumpsuit. This will serve as a dress alternative and can be worn with tights in the winter and remain a playful option for summer with sandals. A French navy number is the perfect trans-seasonal choice.
Choose the top shape that works best for your body type – spaghetti straps to break up broad shoulders, asymmetric one-shouldered can conceal a large bust and halter-neck shows off a good back. For the corporate, a collared neckline is a more empowering alternative.
