GM’s eBay venture set to end
Car giant General Motors’ short-lived effort to sell cars online through eBay is set to end this week. The scheme, which was kicked off in August, hasn’t driven sales as much as had been hoped, dealers and sales figures show.
The online venture was one of GM's first acts after it emerged from bankruptcy in July. Chief executive Fritz Henderson had said the project would make car shopping more convenient. GM, which is now controlled by the US government, is under massive pressure to stem a slide in US market share. It has gone to great lengths to woo buyers. The latest effort is a 60-day, money-back guarantee launched earlier this month.
