Tories call for lobby register
Jeremy Hunt, the shadow culture secretary yesterday called for a “statutory” register of lobbyists in the wake of recent political scandals. The Tories say they favour a voluntary approach but would be willing to make it a statutory requirement if that does not happen.
Miliband: Iraq wrong choice
Foreign secretary David Miliband yesterday admitted the UK would not have gone to war with Iraq if it had known there were no weapons of mass destruction. However, he deflected debate away from the issue, saying that was “what we did in 2005” and the issue now is how to promote stability in the region.
Labour win may hit credit rating
A survey of investment professionals by Opinion Business Research has found concerns about the implications of a Labour victory or hung parliament. Of those surveyed, 77 per cent said this could lead to a downgrading of the UK’s sovereign credit rating.
