Lloyds online banking down: Customers unable to access accounts as Lloyds suffers outage

Lloyds' online banking system crashed this morning, leaving some customers unable to access the service.

The failure followed scheduled maintenance to the bank’s online banking, mobile app and tablet app services over the weekend. Customers were able to access online banking from around 5pm this evening.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said this morning: “We are currently aware that some customers may be experiencing intermittent issues when trying to access their online banking service this morning.

“We are working to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency and we are sorry for any inconvenience for our customers.”

Customers reacted with anger, however, as they struggled to make payments and view their accounts.

The latest outage followed a string of high profile banking IT failures.

The bank experienced an IT glitch last month which left Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers unable to transfer money, and suffered another technical issue in November last year.

TSB, which was sold by Lloyds in 2015, suffered a major IT meltdown last year as it transferred customers away from Lloyds' system.
