RON ARAD: RESTLESS
The first major exhibition of Arad’s work in the UK includes a new reworking of his classic 1989 Well Tempered Chair – re-done in transparent polycarbonate – his ping pong table with a highly-reflective surface that slopes in the middle to slow down the game for visitors to play on, and an interactive chandelier that receives and displays text messages (text 07767 396 942). Until 16 May, tickets £8. The Barbican, EC2Y 8DS, www.barbican.org.uk.

LA FILLE MAL GARDÉE AT ROYAL OPERA HOUSE
Frederick Ashton’s charming ballet combines a lighthearted story, beautiful solos, pas de deux and lively ensembles. Haystacks and chickens, ponies and storms accompany this tale of young love in a picturesque rural scene – everything sparkles with good humour. A great introduction to ballet for newcomers of any age, or just a good way to lift winter spirits. 9 Mar-28 April, tickets £5-£85. Covent Garden, WC2E 9DD, www.roh.org.uk.
