NEED TO KNOW | AREA INSIGHT
The settlement in Brentwood can be traced back to Saxon times and has a strong military tradition, with the town having being used as an active army base. Today it is one of Essex’s most affluent areas and one of the new commuter hotspots.
The combination of excellent transport links and countryside living has proven popular with families who need easy access to London but want more space at a relatively low price.
Brentwood is only two miles from the M25 and its mainline station allows access to Liverpool Street station in as little as 30 minutes. When Crossrail is complete in 2018, access to the City and central London will be even easier.
It is surrounded by woodland and sprawling green spaces. A number of villages on the outskirts, such as Herongate, Great Warley and Blackmore, offer a village feel, with their cobbled roads and old gastro pubs. While many of the properties are Georgian or Victorian, new developments have also launched, including Crest Nicholson’s Base and Linden Homes’ Burntwood Square.
