Wenger won’t dwell on Van Persie contract
ARSENAL vs OLYMPIACOS
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has attempted to calm fears that captain Robin van Persie could become the latest big name to flee Emirates Stadium.
The Holland striker has been in the most prolific form of his career since January, scoring 26 times in his last 31 games for the Gunners.
But he has less than two years left on his current contract and warned this week that he is in no hurry to commit any further yet.
But Wenger, speaking ahead of tonight’s Champions League Group F match against Olympiacos, argues it is too early to worry about losing another star.
“You have to respect that he has nearly two years to go, so let’s not make an immediate issue of something like that – two years in football is a very, very long time,” he said.
“On our side we are quite clear, so that is no problem – I do not say there is no problem, because it does not depend only on us – but we are clear with our intention.”
