Wenger riled by critics as trophy hopes vanish
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has hit back at armchair critics after FA Cup elimination at Sunderland capped a dreadful week for the club.
A 2-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light ended the Gunners’ best remaining hope of silverware, having been humbled 4-0 at AC Milan in the Champions League last 16 just days earlier.
It comes amid fresh calls for upheaval at the declining north Londoners, who have not won a trophy since 2005, although Wenger is unwilling to accept their current slump constitutes a crisis.
“It depends what you call a crisis. Every time we lose a game we have a crisis,” he said.
“We will get criticism but I feel that is a bit hard on the team. At the moment I get many lessons from many people who have managed zero clubs and zero games and zero European games. We have played 15 years in the top four, which is a mark of our consistency.”
Arsenal have a week off to regroup before Sunday’s derby showdown with Tottenham at Emirates Stadium.
