Walcott returns as Arsenal target top
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has been boosted by the return of winger Theo Walcott and midfielder Denilson for tomorrow’s crunch visit of Bolton.
The Gunners will leapfrog Chelsea and Manchester United to go top of the Premier League if they can win their second clash against the Trotters in four days by at least two goals.
The recovery of England star Walcott and anchorman Denilson is a welcome fillip, given that Wenger’s injury list gained a new name yesterday when youngster Fran Merida was ruled out with an ankle injury.
“Denilson and Walcott are available for Wednesday night,” said the Frenchman. “It is a big boost of course because they were out for a while and it gives us some fresh players.
Walcott has been unlucky with some small niggling injuries and so it is good to have him back.”
Wenger, meanwhile, has hailed the coming of age of captain Cesc Fabregas following the Spanish midfielder’s match-winning performance in Sunday’s 2-0 win at the Reebok Stadium.
“He looks like a real general in midfield now and of course that helps as we go into a period of important games,” Wenger said.
On the chance to go top of the table, albeit having played once more than leaders Chelsea, he added: “It is important psychologically – not mathematically so much. We have a good opportunity to do it so we have to focus.”
