US Republicans eye deal benefits
The US Republicans are gearing up for a fresh attack on President Obama’s spending plans in spite of a budget settlement to prevent another shutdown next year, the House of Representatives budget chairman Paul Ryan said yesterday. He told Fox News that “government has to function and we saw the specter of two possible government shutdowns in 2014, one in January and one in October”. He was speaking ahead of a Senate vote this week on the debt ceiling compromise, which passed the House last week and should clear the US from the threat of a shutdown until mid-2015. However, he said the agreement allows the Republicans to focus on getting more from the Democrats out of the deal.
