Unfortunate Poulter’s green with envy
IAN POULTER was left to rue a number of missed opportunities – but insisted he is still in with a shout of mounting a title challenge.
The world No8 hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation but struggled with the putter as he carded a one-under-par 71.
“The golf course was as easy as it’s ever going to get and I didn’t take advantage despite playing great,” Poulter said. “I’m not going to be disappointed with the way I played, I just didn’t hole putts so I can’t beat myself up over it. It was one of those days.
“This is the Open and although I’m eight behind the leader there are 54 holes of golf to play.”
