Tour over for Banahan after Barbarians citing
MATT BANAHAN’S England summer is over after he was found guilty of a dangerous tackle in Tuesday’s win over the Australian Barbarians.
The Bath wing was cited for a “lifting tackle” on Australian centre Berrick Barnes during the 15-9 victory and was handed a two-week suspension, ruling him out for the rest of the tour.
Although Banahan was not expected to be involved in Saturday’s second Test with the
Wallabies in Sydney, he would have been in contention for the final tour match, against New Zealand Maori on Wednesday.
Coach Martin Johnson must now decide whether or not to appeal Banahan’s suspension as he prepares to name his side for Saturday’s Test today.
Centre Mike Tindall missed training yesterday but Johnson is confident the Gloucester centre will be fit.
