TIPS FROM THE TOP WITH
Hopefully ou’ve reached the final day of The Festival with your wallets – and livers – in good shape as we approach the meeting highlight, the Gold Cup.
It could be an absolute cracker with some rising stars meeting some declining legends at perhaps the same levels of talent. But I’m trying to go with the head not the heart so, with a ruthless approach, I’m putting a line through Kauto Star and Denman because they’re too old, and Long Run because I think he hates Cheltenham.
That leaves me thinking that last year’s champ Imperial Commander will win again. His biggest danger will come from both of the Irish challengers, Kempes and Pandorama. If it lashes rain before the race, and it’s due to fall at some point today, Pandorama could be right in the mix.
The race straight after the Gold Cup is often overlooked as everyone is caught up in celebrations, but the Foxhunters this year is one you should sit up and watch because you should definitely have a few quid on On The Fringe who is a proper horse and will take a lot of beating in my view.
