Three hotpots for rooftop drinks
EVEN a hint of clemency in London weather sends people out onto the streets to try to lap up a ray or two. This summer, though, we seem to have a proper excuse to drink outside. The only question is: where? Well, banish thoughts of rammed pubs or overly exclusive venues. London is now home to increasing numbers of delightful terraces on which to have a tipple. Here are three of the best.
AQUA TERRACES
Aqua was a blazing newcomer to the restaurant scene; part Spanish, part Japanese, and entirely glam. The roof terraces (left) are full of luxe minimalist lounge chairs and sofas, with great views over Soho. The idea is to sit there, nibble some manchego and chorizo – or some sushi – as the sun goes down. 240 Regents St, W1 3BR.?Tel: 0207 478 0540.
VISTA AT THE TRAFALGAR HOTEL
Big Ben, The London Eye, Parliament and Nelson are all part of the view from this swish and iconic roof terrace (left). A herb garden gives it a natural feel, and the wine and snacks list is bulging with goodies; there’s also a restaurant. This is a dead cert if you want to impress. £5 cover charge. Trafalgar Square, SW1A 2TS. Tel: 020 7870 2900.
BOUNDARY ROOFTOP
A deck with an open fireplace, a 48-seat grill restaurant and a garden designed by Nicola Lesbirel serves up 360-degree views from Canary Wharf to the Gherkin. The space has large sail-like canopy, heating, festoon lighting and Welsh blankets. 2-4 Boundary Street, E2 7DD.?Tel: 020 7729 1051.
