Tendulkar and Dhoni spared in India cull
INDIA have wielded the axe in an attempt to rescue the series in this week’s final Test against England, but have kept faith with under-fire captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and off-form batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Selectors have dropped Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh and replaced them with fast bowler Parvinder Awana, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.
Indian media have called for Dhoni, who needs a victory in Nagpur to avoid a first home series defeat for eight years, to relinquish the captaincy.
But he said: “The easiest thing for me to do right now is to give up the captaincy and be part of the side, because that’s just running away from the responsibility. I have to get the team together, and be prepared for the next Test.”
