Telegraph says it was ready to publish exposé
THE Telegraph has defended its decision not to publish Vince Cable’s explosive comments about Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
The newspaper says it intended to run his secretly recorded comments today, as part of a fresh series of undercover stings on MPs.
It yesterday featured Cable’s remarks about the coalition, withholding details about his views on the News Corp takeover of BSkyB.
The controversial quotes about the bid were reported by Robert Peston, after the withheld material was passed to the BBC business editor.
A letter signed by Telegraph chief executive Murdoch MacLennan, along with other senior media executives, was sent in October urging the business secretary to block News Corp from buying BSkyB in full.
