Super Sunday sees eBay visits from mobile devices double
VISITS to eBay through mobile devices almost doubled to three million last Sunday as shoppers started their festive shopping spree, data out yesterday showed.
The surge on Sunday 2 December – dubbed Super Sunday – marked one of the busiest days for the site and helped drive purchases on eBay in the UK to 25 per second.
Sales executed through mobile devices also increased 110 per cent with traffic peaking at 8pm. eBay’s senior director of mobile Olivier Ropars said: “The festive season is always a busy time of year so it’s no surprise to see consumers taking advantage of their mobile and tablet devices to save time and track down some great Christmas deals.”
Overall, the website saw nine million unique visits from the UK on Sunday, an increase of 18 per cent versus the same day last year.
The firm said about one-third of these visits – about three million in total – were logged on from mobile devices like iPads, an increase of 96 per cent on last year.
Shopping from mobile devices has boomed in recent years due to the access consumers have to handheld devices. A survey conducted by eBay showed more than half of shoppers planned to shop more by mobile this year.
