Kroenke ups the stakes
FOOTBALL: Arsenal director Stan Kroenke is closing in on making an offer for the north London club after increasing his share again yesterday.
The American bought 90 more shares to take his share to 28.9 per cent – just short of the 29.9 per cent needed to trigger a formal takeover bid.
Rob is Key to Kent plans
CRICKET: Captain Rob Key has turned down interest from Surrey to sign a new extended contract with Kent.
Key, who led the county to promotion from County Championship division two last year, signs a new long-term deal and will remain as captain for the 2010 season.
Rose in the chasing pack
GOLF: Justin Rose enjoyed a successful return to the European Tour with a seven-under-par 65 in the opening round of the Portugal Masters.
Rose lies in a share of second with three other players, two shots behind Italian Francesco Molinari, who fired an eagle and eight birdies in a 63.
