Spain tribute to Seve
SOUTH AFRICA’S Thomas Aiken dedicated victory to Seve Ballesteros after winning his first European Tour title at the Spanish Open.
The weekend’s action at El Prat, near Barcelona, was overshadowed by the passing of the iconic Ballesteros, 54, on Saturday morning after a long fight with brain cancer.
Aiken said: “It’s been a sad week with Seve passing away. I definitely want to dedicate this win to him.”
Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Zapatero called five-time Major winner Ballesteros “a legend in world sport”, adding: “Severiano was loved and respected for his great charisma and strength, which he showed until the very end of his life.”
