Smythson steps up expansion with a new Sloane Street store
SMYTHSON, the upmarket stationer and leather goods retailer where Samantha Cameron is a creative consultant, is set to open a large flagship store in Sloane Street as part of its ambitious expansion plans.
The group currently leases a smaller store at Sloane Street, which its landlord the Cadogan Estate plans to redevelop.
Smythson has signed a deal to relocate to 142 Sloane Street, a large 8,000 square feet store, which spans three floors. The shop was previously occupied by knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland, which left the property at the end of September.
The Sloane Street expansion forms part of a series of refits to be rolled out in Smythson’s dozen stores around the world. Last month it reopened its flagship store on Bond Street and doubled it in size to 4,100 square feet.
The luxury firm – which celebrated its 125th anniversary this year – also plans to expand its retail presence to 40-50 shops in the next four to five years following in the steps of its peers taking advantage of the relative resilience of the luxury market.
