Smartphones and tablets keep luring shoppers to buy online
Britons buying with their tablets and smartphones has reached 40 per cent of online retail sales after a boom in activity over the last three months to the end of January.
Quarterly figures from industry analysts IMRG and Capgemini yesterday showed mobile sales rose at their sharpest rate since the same quarter last year, when they made up 32 per cent of online sales.
That figure is also up from 37 per cent the previous quarter, thanks to people spending more over Black Friday and the festive period.
The report also showed a slowdown in sales through tablets, with smartphones now accounting for a quarter of mobile sales, up from 20 per cent last year.
Capgemini retail director Adgild Hop said tablets are reaching their prime: “With ever-expanding screens, and increasingly ubiquitous connectivity, I don’t think it will be too long before smartphones overtake tablets as the prominent mobile shopping device”.
