Serena enjoys instant boost
RETURNING to work in the New Year is enough to make anyone reach for a coffee, and world No1 Serena Williams showed she was no different at the Hopman Cup in Australia yesterday.
Williams called for the drink after losing the first set of her singles match with Italy’s Flavia Pennetta to love and the impact was instant, as the American rattled off 12 of the next 15 games to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-0.
“I asked them to get me a shot of espresso. I asked them if it was legal, because I’ve never done it before,” she said. “I’m so jet-lagged and Flavia played really well and everyone needs coffee every now and then. I am a coffee drinker. I didn’t have mine this morning and I was just feeling it.”
