Sarries boss urges Borthwick recall
SARACENS (26) vs BATH (19)
SARACENS boss Mark McCall urged England chiefs to hand captain Steve Borthwick an international recall after he helped close the gap on Premiership leaders Harlequins.
Borthwick and Chris Wyles scored the tries and centre Owen Farrell landed six successful kicks as the hosts came from behind to move three points behind Quins.
“Steve has never given up on England and making a comeback,” said McCall, ahead of England’s Six Nations squad announcement on Wednesday.
“He is playing so well, yet is someone rarely mentioned in terms of the squad. If England came calling for his experience among what may be a young squad, he would never say no.”
Stephen Donald’s try and conversion handed Bath an early lead and Sarries’s woes mounted when they then lost prop Rhys Gill to the sin-bin for an infringement at the scrum.
But Borthwick levelled despite the numerical disadvantage before Wyles crossed in the second half.
