IN-RUNNING TRADING HINTS
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is arguably the most eagerly anticipated race of the week for in-running players because of the presence of both Kauto Star and Denman.
The pair are household names and I’d be staggered if they are sent off as big as the respective 7.5 and 8.5 currently available on Betdaq. If the forecast is to be believed and the heavens do open, I’d be amazed if Denman doesn’t challenge Imperial Commander for favouritism. There may well be a chance to trade in and out before the tapes even go up at 3.20pm.
As for the race itself, the presence of front-running pair Neptune Collonges and Carruthers will ensure that the race is run at a ferocious gallop. The latter looks to be a mouth-watering back to lay prospect if the ground does turn soft. He can be backed at around 80.0 on the Daq and could easily trade beneath 25.0 if still at the head of affairs going out on the final circuit. That would be the time to lay back your stake and more.
Of the leading contenders, the best strategy may well be to lay Denman late on in the race if he appears to be ‘tanking’. His price is bound to shorten dramatically when the crowd roars and the commentators wax lyrical about the way he is travelling. The history books suggest he is up against it and it pays in the long run to hit the lay button when all about you are doing the very opposite.
