Root dismisses Stokes-Samuels duel as harmless and healthy fun
ENGLAND run machine Joe Root has moved to diffuse the on-field posturing between all-rounder Ben Stokes and West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels during last week’s second Test in Grenada.
Tensions appeared to simmer between the duo throughout England’s nine-wicket victory, intensifying when Samuels silently saluted Stokes following his dismissal during England’s first innings on day three.
“Obviously there are lines out there that can’t be crossed but that was all good fun, I know that’s Ben’s attitude to it as well,” said Root.
“At the moment Ben would admit that Marlon’s one up on him, and for me that makes the series interesting. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.”
