Robson heads six-strong Brit pack in Australia
TEENAGER Laura Robson is out to upset the odds today when the largest British contingent at a foreign grand slam for 20 years begin their quest at the Australian Open.
Robson, 17, faces a formidable task in the form of 13th seed Jelena Jankovic in the fourth match scheduled on Margaret Court Arena this morning.
The Melbourne-born Brit came through the qualifying rounds to take her place in the main draw of a grand slam for only the third time in her promising career.
She is one of six players from these shores to take part in the men’s and women’s singles tournaments.
British No1 Elena Baltacha meets France’s Stephanie Foretz while Londoner Anne Keothavong plays German Mona Barthel.
Guernsey 19-year-old Heather Watson and Robson’s fellow qualifier James Ward were both due to play their matches early this morning.
