The reports of live television’s death are greatly exaggerated – Thinkbox
Heavy warnings that live TV would fall into terminal decline due to on-demand services like Netflix are proving unfounded, according to new research.
Figures released by Thinkbox, the UK TV industry’s promotion body, yesterday revealed that 88 per cent of all TV viewing is still live.
The news bodes well for commercial broadcasters Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV, with brokerage firm Liberum holding ITV as their top media stock with a target of 255p.
Liberum media analyst, and City A.M. analyst of the year nominee in 2013 and 2014, Ian Whittaker, said: “While the Thinkbox data has most relevance for ITV, it is also relevant across all broadcasters as it shows TV’s resilience.”
