Quins saunter to historic five-try win in Abu Dhabi
WASPS (13) vs HARLEQUINS (38)
HARLEQUINS ran in five tries to thump Wasps in Abu Dhabi in the first competitive match between English clubs to be played on foreign soil.
In a specially-constructed 5,000-seater stadium in the grounds of a luxury hotel, Quins, technically the away side, romped to a bonus point LV= Cup win. Karl Dickson ran in two tries while George Lowe, Ceri Jones and Sam Smith also crossed in a contest missing a host of stars due to RBS Six Nations preparations.
Tom Varndell and Joe Launchbury went over for Wasps, but it was nowhere near enough to deny Quins a victory that puts them top of Pool Four with one round remaining.
Head coach Conor O’Shea said his side had enjoyed playing in warmer weather than they would have back home. “On a day like today, when the conditions are like they are, you can get a few tries, which we did,” he said.
Elsewhere, London Irish were 37-20 winners at home to Northampton.
