Prior vows to show his true colours
ENGLAND wicketkeeper Matt Prior believes it’s about time England did themselves justice at the World Cup.
Embarrassing defeats by Bangladesh and Ireland were offset by a victory over South Africa and a remarkable tie against India in the group stages as England limped unimpressively into the last eight.
Andrew Strauss’s men face co-hosts Sri Lanka on Saturday and Prior hopes the knockout stages will bring out the best in him and his side.
He said: “We came here to win the World Cup, and if you leave having not won it you will be disappointed.
“We’re at the sexy part of the competition – the knockout stages – and everything that has gone on before is irrelevant.
“To win an Ashes and to win a World Cup in a winter is something quite phenomenal.
“It’s something all these guys in this dressing room are fighting to do. Anything short of that, and we’ll be disappointed.”
