Prince Harry got to the Pole – but you can still help
Last chance to take part in the Walking Home For Christmas appeal to help raise money for wounded troops
AFTER four weeks trekking across the Antarctic Plateau, the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge teams arrived at the South Pole just after noon on Friday.
Prince Harry described it as an “amazing feeling” to have reached it, and after walking 200km in freezing conditions, no-one could argue with him. But Harry and his team weren’t the only ones walking for charity on Friday. A team of Virgin Money staff completed a sponsored 10k walk around London … dressed as penguins.
The team walked (or waddled) past the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, the Stockwell War Memorial and the Cenotaph Memorial during the 10km event.
The group was raising money for Walking With The Wounded and helping raise awareness of this Friday’s Walking Home For Christmas event, which will see hundreds of City workers shunning their usual transport home, in favour of two legs.
There’s still enough time to sign up to Walking Home for Christmas if you want to get involved – just sign up at www.walkinghomeforchristmas.com.
And there is plenty of incentive to take part, including free pints at any Renaissance Pubs venue you walk past, a snazzy suit for the longest walk, and a chance to meet the South Pole team if you and your colleagues have the longest cumulative walk. Come on, get those walking shoes out…
