Pressure from FA chiefs forces Fabio to suspend ‘Index’ launch
FABIO CAPELLO yesterday bowed under pressure to scrap his controversial “Capello Index” project – less than 24 hours after it was launched.
The Italian created a wave of publicity after putting his name to the project, which rates the performance of his England players on the internet soon after each World Cup game.
But after a meeting with senior Football Association staff, Capello decided to suspend the launch until the World Cup is over. “Fabio Capello’s involvement has been purely as a technical expert to establish statistical criteria for the Index,” his spokesmen said.
“He has not been directly involved in the online gaming element of the site.
“However, he wants to ensure that all appropriate protocols are in place before the project proceeds and has therefore decided today to postpone it.”
