Portsmouth won’t rule out European campaign
CRISIS club Portsmouth insist they will not be kicked out of the FA Cup, although they are not eligible for European competition should they win the trophy.
Cup rules state a club in administration faces the threat of being expelled, but Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou is adamant the semi-finalists are safe. “The FA are fully supportive of us and they want us to succeed,” he said. “There is no chance of us being kicked out of the FA Cup.”
Pompey, who beat Birmingham in Saturday’s quarter-final have not applied for a licence to compete in next season’s Europa League and would be unlikely to get one owing to their financial woes. But Andronikou added: “Let’s get into Europe first and then worry about the club licence.”
