Airbus talks are adjourned
Airbus and seven European NATO nations adjourned crucial talks over the troubled A400M military transporter plane yesterday, with a source close to the talks saying they remained far apart on a possible rescue package. Germany is understood to be the major sticking point in the negotiations, which have become more urgent since Airbus said it needed a resolution by the end of this month or it would consider cancelling the project.
EU backs Oracle’s takeover
The European Union yesterday approved Oracle’s $7.4bn (£4.6bn) takeover of fellow computer firm Sun Microsystems.
EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said she had cleared the deal because “competition and innovation will be preserved”. Her decision comes after the EU launched an investigation into the takeover in September. Oracle said it now expected to complete the deal “shortly”.
