Munster tap former Saracens star Stringer for inside info
MUNSTER have mined their former Saracens scrum-half Peter Stringer for tactical secrets in a bid to gain an edge in tomorrow’s crunch Heineken Cup clash with the Londoners.
Unbeaten Sarries lead Pool One and can take a huge step towards the knockout rounds with victory at Thomond Park, while the Irishmen know they cannot afford to lose more ground before the trip to Vicarage Road next weekend. With that in mind, fit-again Munster scrum-half Conor Murray admits he has tapped Stringer, who spent three months on loan at the Premiership club last season, for tips on how best to combat the visitors.
“I have had a few chats with Strings on the Saracens gameplan and the way they like to play,” said the Ireland No9. “We are very lucky that he spent some time over there and he knows the lads over there as well. He has given his input this week, stressing a few bits and pieces. While we will look at them we are trying to mostly focus on our own performance.”
Saracens welcome back All Black-slaying England stars Owen Farrell, Chris Ashton, Brad Barritt, Alex Goode and Mako Vunipola, as well as Schalk Brits and Kelly Brown. Two-time winners Munster are still without Ireland lock Paul O’Connell and face a back-row injury crisis, with CJ Stander, Sean Dougall and Niall Ronan all out.
