Moyes’ in a dilemma over Toffees favourite Donovan
EVERTON boss David Moyes admits he faces an uphill battle to keep Landon Donovan at Goodison Park after the American helped set up this crushing victory.
On-loan Donovan is wanted back by his club Los Angeles Galaxy, but Moyes is hoping to persuade the MLS side to let him stay a while longer to spearhead the Toffees’ push for a European place.
Donovan was named only as a substitute for the visit of Hull, but came on to score the fourth goal and set up a fifth for Jack Rodwell.
The Toffees had earlier seized control thanks to two goals from Mikel Arteta and a Richard Garcia own goal, before Donovan wrapped things up with his cameo display.
“I hope it’s not his last home game for the club. He will certainly play next week and I’ll try to extend his loan as well,” Moyes said. “But from what I’ve heard from America that doesn’t look likely at the moment.”
Arteta’s brace saved the blushes of Yakubu, who missed a first-half penalty while 19-year-old Tom Cairney netted a fine first senior goal for an otherwise toothless Hull, who remain in the relegation zone.
