McCall: Tomkins can inspire Sarries to Premiership crown
SARACENS director of rugby Mark McCall believes fit again Joel Tomkins will be crucial to his side’s Aviva Premiership run-in, after his starring role in yesterday’s 23-10 win over Exeter Chiefs.
Centre Tomkins made his first start since picking up a knee injury on England duty in the autumn as Sarries celebrated Allianz Park’s one-year anniversary with victory.
McCall said: “It’s great to see Joel back. In the first 20 minutes we were lethargic. We were a second off in everything we did but then Joel made a couple of important breaks and got us on the front foot.”
Leicester Tigers went fourth with a 20-15 win against London Irish, climbing above Harlequins who lost 25-20 at Gloucester on Saturday.
London Wasps picked up a bonus point despite a 32-25 defeat to Bath.
