Mayor gets Londoners on their bicycles for Skyride
MOREthan 65,000 people took to the streets of London on their bicycles for the Mayor of London’s Skyride yesterday, aimed at promoting city cycling.
After events in Manchester, Hounslow, Glasgow and Leicester, traffic in the capital was blocked off to allow cyclists the freedom to enjoy sights such as Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London from the comfort of their saddle.
Cyclists of all ages and abilities turned out for the ride, joined by British Olympic gold medal winner Sir Chris Hoy, celebrities such as Kelly Brook, and the Mayor of London himself, Boris Johnson.
Johnson announced afterwards that over the coming months new plans are to be revealed to make London “one of the most cycle friendly cities in the world”.
