Mauricio Pochettino backs Vincent Janssen to fill void left by injured Harry Kane
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has backed Vincent Janssen to fill the striking void left by Harry Kane after the England forward suffered ankle ligament damage during his side’s victory over Sunderland on Sunday.
Although Pochettino has refused to put a timescale on Kane’s likely absence, the 23-year-old is set for up to eight weeks on the sidelines, which hands Janssen, who cost Spurs £18.5m, an opportunity to make his mark.
“He [Janssen] is ready to compete,” said Pochettino. “You can see his qualities. It’s always difficult when you don’t have an opportunity to play. Strikers are always excited to play and sometimes feel the pressure. Now he needs to be calm.”
Janssen, who scored 27 goals for AZ Alkmaar last season, has only started once for Spurs this term. He is set to play Wednesday’s EFL Cup third round clash against Gillingham.
