London hotels outperform UK as bookings dwindle
HOTEL occupancy in the capital has seen a marginal decline compared to the rest of the UK this year, according to figures out yesterday by accountancy firm Deloitte.
Hotels in the UK have suffered a 10.9 per cent fall in revenue per available room (Revpar) during the first three quarters of 2009 to just £60.
But hoteliers in London have seen a smaller Revpar fall of 7.4 per cent to £98, as £10 was knocked off the average room rates compared to last year.
Occupancy also saw a marginal decline of 0.2 per cent – taking total London hotel occupancy to 80.4 per cent.
Deloitte hospitality managing partner Marvin Rust said: “To achieve over 80 per cent occupancy during one of the most severe economic downturns in history is very impressive.”
