London 2012 clock breaks
OLYMPICS: London 2012 organisers suffered further embarrassment yesterday when the clock counting down to next year’s Games stopped. The digital display in Trafalgar Square broke less than 24 hours after it was unveiled on Monday to mark 500 days until the event begins. A spokesman for the clock’s makers Omega said: “We are obviously very disappointed that the clock suffered this technical issue.” The clock was fixed later in the evening. The farce followed confusion over the ticket application process, which was launched yesterday. Customers attempting to pay with Visa cards that expire before August 2011 were told they would have to wait to complete their applications. But a London 2012 spokesman said: “There is no glitch with the website. The expiry date is made clear in all of our materials.”
