Liverpool close to Lambert deal
LIVERPOOL were last night closing in on a £4m move for Southampton and England striker Rickie Lambert.
The 32-year-old hit 16 goals last season, including the winner against Scotland on his England debut in August.
Brendan Rodgers’ men, who finished as Premier League runners-up scoring 101 goals, are hoping to fast-track the deal before Lambert flies out with the rest of the England squad to Miami on Sunday for pre-World Cup training.
Southampton have insisted they are under no financial pressure to sell their star players this summer, though World Cup-bound Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw are also expected to exit St Mary’s after excelling last season.
