Julio Cesar set for QPR as Real get ready for Granero grapple
QPR look set to follow up the acquisition of Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar by rivalling Tottenham for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero.
Outcast former Rangers captain Joey Barton, however, is facing an indefinite spell in the reserves after seeing a potential loan switch to Marseille collapse.
Brazil’s Julio Cesar is believed to have held further talks with QPR yesterday as he ponders leaving Serie A after seven years in the Italian top flight to provide Robert Green with competition for the No1 shirt.
Green only arrived from West Ham earlier this summer, but is already at risk of being dropped following QPR’s inauspicious start to the new season.
Combative midfielder Granero is expected to leave Real before the transfer window closes on Friday following the £30m purchase of Luka Modric from Tottenham. Spurs and QPR are both interested in recruiting the 25-year-old, who has previously been trailed by Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.
Barton, however, is facing more uncertainty over his future after he revealed that a mooted loan to Marseille had fallen through.
