Inside the £12m penthouse
Take a tour of one of the City’s most exclusive new addresses
HIGH atop the City of London, towering over Moorgate station, neighbouring Linklaters, London Wall and The Barbican, sits the first major residential development to be built in the City of London for three decades.
As such, the developer behind The Heron – not to be confused with The Heron Tower, Sushi Samba fans – wants to make living in one of its penthouses as much about City lifestyle as high-end furnishings. Its apartments and homes in the Penthouse Collection have sold out and residents have begun to move in. But the star attractions are two penthouses on the top floors of the 36-storey tower with a guide price from £12m. Whoever moves into these are sure to have one of the most high-profile addresses in London and an enviable commute.
The largest penthouse boasts 6,000sqft spread over two-floors. All four bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, bedecked in mother of pearl and marble finishings. The open plan kitchen and living area is far from the only entertaining space as this hyper-luxury penthouse offers no less than three lounges and a cinema room. The 5.6 metre high ceilings are connected to the floor via glass windows providing panoramic views over central London.
If the heights of The Heron leave you feeling disconnected from the outside world, a retractable roof on the second floor opens up a whole world of new possibilities. The view can also be admired from juliette balconies and the bathroom where The Shard looms over the bathtub. Downstairs in luxury penthouse number two, it’s a similar story. Pastel retro furnishings and bold prints give the penthouse a character of its own and signed prints by Damien Hirst and David Bowie adorning the cinema room walls. This penthouse has two living rooms, three bedrooms, and 4,000sqft of floor space. But it still has a retractable roof, so it’s not without a touch of glamour.
There has already been some churn within the building, says Lisa Ronson, commercial director of Heron International, with residents keen to upgrade to higher floors.
She adds, “The success of The Heron – where 92 per cent of the apartments were already sold before completion – highlights the level of demand for property in the Square Mile and the rarity of developments of this quality in this location.”
