Indian parade gatecrashed by woman in red
IT seems tweeting Tory MP Aidan Burley wasn’t the only one for whom Danny Boyle’s mesmerising opening ceremony was all a bit too much.
Lord Coe yesterday identified the so-called “woman in red” who gatecrashed the Indian team’s parade during Friday night’s spectacular as a member of the show’s cast who had become “over-excited”.
Indian officials had earlier demanded an apology and an explanation as to how the intruder, wearing clothing clearly distinct from the team’s yellow saris and blue blazers, had sneaked alongside flag-bearer, wrestler Sushil Kumar.
“We have been looking at security but she didn’t just walk in off the street,” said Coe. “She was a cast member who got slightly over-excited. She shouldn’t have been there but she clearly started in that venue. I will be speaking to the Indian delegation.”
India’s chef de mission, PKM Raja, said the woman had “embarrassed us in front of the world”.
He added: “This was bizarre. We will ask for an apology. The Indian contingent was shown for just 10 seconds and to think this lady hogged all the limelight.”
